About the orchestra
This new orchestra commenced rehearsals on 7/7/2005. It is the third mandolin orchestra to be established in Melbourne. Our activities are in keeping with our origin - as an Academy - and are directed at provision of support for members in ensemble performance. In addition free mandolin and guitar tuition is available .
Our main aim is to provide musical and social enjoyment for our Members and to help them to develop their musical skills in a supportive environment. A feature in our year is the small group and solo concert. Mandolin and guitar players, members and non members are invited to participate. There are sections for solo, duo, trio and quartet performers. This provides performance opportunities which are not otherwise available, a learning experience, and an enjoyable event. Our annual programme otherwise includes only one or two concerts per year.
This suits people who are busy with work, family and other commitments.
